MECHANICAL/ELECTRICAL - MEP COORDINATOR

The primary role of the Mechanical/Electrical MEP Coordinator is to be a resource and provide guidance for McGough’s entire construction team from pre-construction to project close out, while providing best value to the project and our clients.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Ability to read, understand and identify mechanical/electrical code compliance and constructability issues in design drawings and specifications
  • Capable of creating scope of work documents for mechanical/electrical pricing by subcontractors
  • Knowledge of mechanical/electrical components and construction costs
  • Strong communication skills for directly interacting with Architects, Engineers, Subcontractors and Owners

Preferred:

  • 5+ years experience with mechanical/electrical design/consulting
  • 3+ years experience working with mechanical/electrical contractor/general contractor
  • 5+ year experience with MEP Estimating
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or Construction Management
  • Ability to navigate through REVIT and AutoCAD documents
  • Experience with Onscreen takeoff
  • Experience with estimating software
  • Experience with Bluebeam Revu
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Work, Excel, etc.)

Office and Travel:

In addition to regional meetings, overnight travel may be involved

Responsibilities and Tasks:

  • Review mechanical/electrical design drawings and specifications
    • Comment on potential mechanical/electrical code conflicts/requirements with the design
    • Comment on potential mechanical/electrical constructability issues with the design
  • Review mechanical/electrical contractor bids and proposals
    • Confirm complete scopes are being provided by mechanical/electrical contractors
    • Evaluate feasibility of voluntary alternates provided by electrical/electrical contractors
    • Communicate and provide MEP contractors with direction on future pricing efforts
  • Budget development for MEP systems
    • Develop and maintain unit pricing database for MEP equipment and systems
    • Develop historical cost database for MEP pricing and historical tracking
    • Coordinate and assist McGough estimating with roll out of estimating software/program
    • Quantity takeoff, unit pricing and estimate analysis for MEP design documentation
    • Development of value engineering items based upon documentation review
    • Attend/manage meetings with project teams (internal/external) to present/review MEP pricing
    • Provide estimating training to other MEP estimators
  • MEP contractor selection
    • Prepare/develop MEP request for information proposals (RFPs) to MEP subcontractors
    • Prepare and complete criteria for mechanical/electrical contractor selection
    • Collaborate with preconstruction team during the mechanical/electrical contractor selection process
    • Manage/implement MEP pre-bid meetings
    • Manage/implement MEP subcontractor interviews
    • Prepare questions for MEP subcontractor interviews
    • Provide RFP analysis and recommendation for MEP subcontractor selection
    • Assist with contract development with PM group for MEP subcontractors
  • Business Development
    • Participate in project pursuits and associated project interviews.
    • Manage and maintain MEP subcontractor relationships within the industry
  • Conduct construction site investigations
    • Attend construction site meetings
    • Periodically conduct site investigations to provide electrical/mechanical deficiencies log
    • Update construction team periodically with deficiencies log
  • Work with construction team through project closeout and commissioning
    • Assist 3rd party commissioning agents in scheduling and completing commissioning logs
    • Assist in gathering and compiling closeout documentation for owner

Occasionally, employee will be required to visit construction jobsites which may expose the employee to dirt, dust, uneven surfaces, outdoor weather conditions and extreme temperatures.
